Nikola is interested in using single spin qubits, primarily NV centers in diamond, as broadband magnetic field sensors to investigate condensed matter systems at cryogenic temperatures. Through the use of ensembles of NV centers in a cryogenic optical scanning instrument, he has developed techniques to image the spin diffusion properties and critical dynamics of mesoscopic magnetic materials down to the atomically thin limit with sub-micron spatial resolution. Nikola is pursuing efforts to use NV centers as radio-frequency detectors of radiation generated by superconducting devices, momentum-resolved sensors of spin dynamics in strongly-correlated materials, and to study vortex dynamics in thin film superconductors.
